Sensis.com.au, marketed as
“Australia's Google” have launched click-to-call
technology in cooperation with eStara. This follows
Google's recent test of this technology and AOL's
ongoing use of it in Europe, which allows consumers to
click on an icon and receive a direct call from
advertisers. Calls are free for the user and Sensis will
begin to offer the service to advertisers at a flat
rate, increasing to a higher, auction-based rate in 2006
when the click-to-call technology is projected to have
penetrated the market.
Click-to-call connections
are perceived by advertisers as at least five times as
valuable as traditional internet advertising clicks. The
Kelsey group, an Advertising Consulting Group, predicts
click-to-call ads will generate between 1.4 and 4
billion dollars worth of revenue by 2009. eStara press
releases claim more ambitious figures: between 4 and 5
billion by 2009. This type of advertising is projected
to generate roughly twice the amount of revenue of
traditional click ads.
Alex Parsons, Group
Manager at Sensis, states, “We’re committed to
delivering innovative advertising solutions and
encourage advertisers to participate in the trial to
help grow their business, by driving direct phone leads
from search results.” Initial results of the launch have
been positive as 92% of users said that they would be
more likely to contact an advertiser that provides
click-to-call service, while 95% said that the
technology would propel them to visit again in the
future.
